FIASKO – A MOVIE OPERA
Which catastrophe would the European utopia end with, if it was an opera?
Along new and old borders, from Darmstadt to the bay of Gdańsk as far as Kaliningrad, the group K.A.U. & Wdowik makes a cinematic journey to the Eastern border of Europe. Their encounters with people, music and stories combine to a libretto of impressive images. On this basis, in collaboration with composer Wojtek Blecharz and musical director Johannes Harneit, a multi-perspective film opera is created.
The starting point of FIASKO is a crisis: As opera lives by the vocal embodiment of innermost emotional worlds, it is the loss of her voice that makes a young singer go on a journey to the unknown. Her goal is the end of Europe to find either a new beginning or death. At the border zones of local music traditions, the European opera repertoire and new compositions, FIASKO opens up unknown musical and visual spaces. As the result of a unique trans-European collaboration, this opera is both a farewell to the European work and its rebirth.
With compositions by Wojtek Blecharz (UA), Hans-Joachim Hespos (UA), Giuseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner, Wolfgang-Amadeus Mozart et al.
FIASKO is funded by the Fonds Doppelpass of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
