K.A.U. work as directors in theatre, film, opera and the intersections of these formats. K.A.U. showed performances, installations and sound works at Spielart Festival Munich, State Theatre Darmstadt, Sophiensaele Berlin, Theaterdiscounter Berlin, Frankfurt LAB, Schlachthaustheater Bern, Frankfurt Luminale and Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt/Main. They were part of the exhibition: unidisplay – uni(psycho)acoustic of the artist Alva Noto at the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt. They are associated with the Institute for Sonic Research founded by Heiner Blum, professor at the Academy for Art and Design in Offenbach. In 2013 they won the B3-Newcomer Award ‘BEN’ in the category ‘non-linear storytelling’ with their video installation Breaking News. In 2015 they received the ‘Einstiegsförderung’ by the Senate of Berlin.

K.A.U. are Philipp Bergmann (DE), Thea Reifler (CH) and Matthias Schönijahn (DE). They have studied with Heiner Goebbels at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen (DE). Currently they are based in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin.

K.A.U.&Wdowik is a collaboration between K.A.U. and the polish director Małgorzata Wdowik. In 2015 they developed the project TRANSIT MONUMENTAL – Droga Niepodległości which was produced by SPIELART – Festival Munich (New Works and Art in Resistance) and also shown at Sophiensaele Berlin and as a lecture at Theaterdiscounter Berlin. From 2016 until 2018 K.A.U.&Wdowik work on their FIASKO – Opera Project which contains five Opera-Evenings and the development of the Film-Opera FIASKO. FIASKO is realized in cooperation with the State Theatre of Darmstadt and founded by the program Doppelpass – Theatre Cooperation Fund by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
